Fasteners: Breakstem RivetsT Rivet® (Structural)
Description
The T Rivet fastener is an aluminum, structural breakstem rivet with "peel
type" tail formation. "Peel type" tail formation means the rivet body splits
when the rivet mandrel is pulled into the rivet body. The rivet body of the
T Rivet splits into three legs and because the rivet is splitting, it does
not expand radially into the application hole. This allows the application
materials to be clamped together as much as possible.
As a structural breakstem rivet, the mandrel of the T Rivet fastener is designed to break flush with the head of the rivet body. This is accomplished with the use of a special nose tip containing a cutting ring (anvil) on the surface of the nose tip. During installation, when the mandrel head comes in contact with the nose tip, the anvil cuts into material around the mandrel head (skive) and folds it into a ledge located in the inner diameter of the rivet head. This prevents the mandrel from falling back through the rivet. Additionally, the locked stem forms a weather tight seal and provides a very strong, vibration resistant joint without the damage, electrical problems or rattling due to loose stems.
A unique feature to the T Rivet fastening system is the option of single
grip or multi-grip configuration. Multi-grip means the rivet has the capability
to join component parts having a broad range of thicknesses. This is accomplished
in the T Rivet with a mandrel that will break near flush with the rivet head
at three different points instead of just one. This unique design permits,
in certain applications, a much wider grip range per rivet. This greatly
reduces rivet handling and inventories since one multi-grip rivet will cover
the range of several single-grip rivets.
