* Rivscrew® is supplied with countersunk headform. During installation a dome head is formed by standard nose equipment. Use of standard flat Briv® nose jaw of similar size is required to maintain the countersunk head.
** The head is not formed from countersunk to dome during installation

Description

The Rivscrew® rivet is a threaded, removable speed fastener that combines the speed of rivet placement with the removability of a screw. It is available in steel construction in sizes of 2.8mm, 3mm, 3.5mm, 4mm and 4.8mm.

The Rivscrew® rivet is installed using a hexagonal shaped mandrel. During installation, the mandrel expands the rivet body radially adjacent to the six corners of the hexagonal shape. This forces the threads on the rivet body into the application forming a thread in the material. Thread forming in this manner a provides higher vibration resistant "thread lock" in the parent material compared to standard screws, while eliminating the need for costly tapping or thread-forming operations. Additionally, the hexagonal mandrel head is designed to the size of a standard Allen wrench so as the mandrel moves through the rivet, it creates that same shape on the inner wall and head of the rivet. This allows the Rivscrew® rivet to be removed and re-applied, making it ideal for applications requiring disassembly for repair or rework. They can simply be unscrewed using a standard hexagonal Allen key.

The non-threaded portion of the rivet body (just below the rivet head) expands into the hole of the application top sheet and requires a different hole size than the threaded portion of the rivet in the application rear sheet. Also, the head of the Rivscrew® rivet is countersunk, while the rivet tool nose jaw has a concave shape. During installation, material from the head flows into the concave recess of the nose jaw such that a dome head is created. If a countersunk head is required, use of the standard Briv® rivet nose jaw is recommended. That nose jaw is flat and will maintain the countersunk head shape of the Rivscrew® rivet. This flexibility makes the Rivscrew® rivet ideal when different headstyles are required within a single application or across multiple applications on a production line.

While the Rivscrew® rivet is flexible in many ways, proper installation and performance can only be attained when the application parameters meet the specified ranges. Please consult the technical specifications when applying the Rivscrew® rivet.

Speed fasteners are placed using a unique repetition mandrel system. Rivets are loaded into specialist tooling and, during placement, the tool pulls the mandrel through the rivet giving both axial and radial expansion (providing clamp and hole fill). At the end of each cycle the next rivet is automatically delivered to the nose piece ready for placement. For large volume applications the fasteners can be bowl fed using automated equipment which gives continuous feed with cycle times as low as 1.5 seconds.

Advantages
  • Expands radially during installation to form a thread in host material
  • Removable for servicing with a hex key and reusable
  • Various lengths available providing high clamp loads
  • Placed using a hexagon mandrel which expands the threaded diameter radially, adjacent to its six corners.
  • Providing a higher vibration resistant "thread lock" in the parent material compared to standard screws
  • Can be used to fasten most materials up to Vickers hardness 105 Hv5
  • Eliminates the need for costly tapping or thread-forming operations
  • Hot tin dipped brass option for ease of soldering and good electrical continuity
  • Placed using a unique repetition mandrel system for high speed assembly
  • Can be bowl fed for larger volume applications using automated equipment
