Fasteners: Breakstem RivetsKlamp-Tite® (Structural) - Protruding Head
Description The structural Klamp-Tite® rivet is an aluminium alloy, breakstem rivet
with a split tail formation where the rivet body collapses into three legs
or petals. This unique collapse pattern provides a wider than normal grip
range and a larger than normal blind side footprint.
The wider than normal grip range provides the capability to join component parts having a broad range of thicknesses, thus reducing inventory where a variety of rivet sizes might otherwise be necessary. The large blind side footprint is often referred to as a large secondary head and creates a load bearing surface which absorbs the force of setting the rivet. Otherwise the setting force, or clamp load, could accumulate in the application material and might damage the material.
The design and fashion in which the rivet body collapses prevents any radial
expansion of the rivet into the application hole - another safeguard against
damage to the application material. The combination of large blind side bearing
surface and lack of radial expansion makes Klamp-Tite® ideal when application
materials are so soft or brittle that the tensile force exerted by a conventional
rivet would cause damage. This typically includes thin sheet, soft, brittle
and low strength materials.
