Fasteners - Threaded Inserts High Strength Hexsert®
High Strength Hexsert® inserts provide clamp force comparable to weld nuts and clinch nuts in high torque applications. They offer equivalent thread proof load strength to ISO 898 Property Class 10 weld nuts and clinch nuts, and can handle tightening torques commonly applied to Property Class 10.9 and 12.9 screws and bolts. The High Strength Hexsert® insert (offered in metric sizes only) is a steel, hexagonal shaped, bubbling insert offered with a large flange head. Bubbling means that during the installation process, the insert collapses into a bubble shape on the backside of the application material. The application material is clamped between the flange of the insert and the bubble shape resulting in high resistance to pull-out loads. Because the insert forms a bubble on the backside of the application, the High Strength Hexsert® insert cannot be used in blind hole applications. The bubble also serves as a load bearing surface, which absorbs the force of setting the insert. Otherwise the setting force, or clamp load, could spread into the application material and might damage the material. This makes the Hexsert® insert ideal for use in thin sheet, soft, brittle and low strength materials. The hexagonal shape of the Hexsert® insert improves torque-to-turn in metallic sheets by up to 200% compared to plain body inserts making the Hexsert® insert ideal for automotive chassis components or thermal applications where high resistance to turning under loads is required or there is high expansion and contraction in the parent material. The low profile flange of the Hexsert® insert results in near flush installation and clamp up making it ideal for flush fitting, thin sheet and low load bearing applications, while the large flange option provides a large load bearing surface, reinforces the application hole and prevents push through.
