Description

The Chobert® rivet is the original speed fastener. It is available in aluminum, brass or steel construction and sizes of 3/32", 1/8", 5/32", 3/16" and 1/4". It can be used in blind holes and is an ideal pivot pin or hose tail. Additionally, it offers lower in-place costs than welding or nail rivets.

The Chobert® rivet is primarily a hole filling rivet meaning it will expand radially into the application hole. The rivet does not collapse or shorten during installation. Maximum performance is realized by interaction of the tapered inner diameter of the rivet body and the flared shape of the mandrel head. The flared mandrel head passes through the tapered bore expanding the rivet fully against the application hole and surrounding material. This ensures consistent light clamp and maximum hole fill without damaging soft or brittle materials.

While it is always recommended that application thickness and hole size meet the specified ranges, several mandrel sizes are available for the Chobert® rivet allowing it to be used in applications slightly outside those dimensions.

Speed fasteners are placed using a unique repetition mandrel system. Rivets are loaded into specialist tooling and, during placement, the tool pulls the mandrel through the rivet giving both axial and radial expansion (providing clamp and hole fill). At the end of each cycle the next rivet is automatically delivered to the nose piece ready for placement. For large volume applications the fasteners can be bowl fed using automated equipment which gives continuous feed with cycle times as low as 1.5 seconds.

Advantages
  • Internally tapered bore ensures consistent light clamp to reduce potential damage to soft or brittle materials
  • Expands radially during installation to ensure maximum hole fill
  • Lower in-place costs than welding or nail rivets
  • Ideal pivot pin or hose tail
  • Hot tin dipped brass option for ease of soldering and good electrical continuity
  • Placed using a unique repetition mandrel system for high speed assembly
  • Can be bowl fed for larger volume applications using automated equipment

Typical Applications
